Methods and pricing
Each template carries its own prices, one block per decoration method it offers. The decoration charge is added to the product's own price per unit, and one-time setup fees are added to the cart as separate fee lines.
Prices are set in StitchPress > Decoration templates > Edit > Pricing.
The two methods
| Item | Embroidery | Screen printing |
|---|---|---|
| Palette meaning | Thread color | Ink color |
| Colors per text or logo | exactly one | one or more |
| Pricing model | placement and size ("ladder") | color count and quantity tier |
| Setup fee counted per | new logo (digitizing) | screen (one per ink per distinct image) |
| Artwork accepted | JPG, PNG, PDF | JPG, PNG, PDF |
Screen printing does not accept AI or EPS uploads in this version. Ask customers for a PDF export instead.
Embroidery: placements and sizes
Fields:
- First placement: the price of the most expensive placement on the design.
- Each additional: the price of every other placement.
- Size multipliers: one number per size, applied to the placement price. Every size needs one.
How it is computed, per unit:
- Each placement gets its size multiplier.
- Placements are sorted by multiplier, largest first. The largest gets the First placement price; every other placement gets Each additional. The order the customer added them in does not matter.
- Each placement costs its rate times its multiplier, rounded to the cent.
- The decoration price is the sum.
The embroidery model has no quantity tiers: the decoration price per unit is the same on 1 cap or 200. If you want volume pricing on embroidery, set it on the product itself (for example with a WooCommerce quantity-discount plugin); StitchPress adds the decoration charge on top of whatever price the product ends up with.
Screen printing: colors and quantity
Fields:
- Per-location base: charged for each placement.
- Per color: charged for each ink color in that placement.
- Quantity tiers: rows of Min qty and Multiplier. The first tier must start at 1. Click Add quantity tier for more rows.
How it is computed, per unit:
- Each placement costs base plus per color times its number of inks, rounded to the cent.
- The placements are added up.
- The tier for the line's quantity is the row with the largest Min qty not above that quantity. The subtotal is multiplied by its multiplier and rounded to the cent.
The quantity is the quantity of that cart line. Two separate cart lines are tiered separately.
Setup fees
Each method block has a Setup fee with three fields:
- Charged per: the counting unit, set by the method:
artworkfor embroidery, screenfor screen printing. - Amount: the fee for one unit. 0 means no setup fee.
- Waive at: if the decorated lines in the cart add up to at least this amount, the setup fee for that method is dropped. 0 means never waive.
Setup fees are charged once per job across the whole cart, not per garment:
- Per new logo (embroidery). One fee per distinct uploaded file. Text never charges a setup fee, because there is nothing to digitize. The same logo on two products in the cart is one fee.
- Per screen (screen printing). One fee per distinct pair of image and ink color. A three-color logo is three screens. Text counts too, because it still has to be burned to a screen; the same wording in the same font is the same image. The same logo in the same inks on a second product adds no screens.
The fee appears as one cart fee line per method, for example "Embroidery setup: 2 new logos" or "Screen printing setup: 4 screens".
Details that matter:
- Waive at compares against the subtotal of the decorated cart lines before tax, garment price included.
- If two templates in one cart set different setup fees for the same method, the higher fee is charged.
- Setup fees are taxable when your store has taxes enabled.
- For screen printing on dark garments, StitchPress can also charge the white underbase screen. That is off by default and controlled by Charge a screen for the underbase in StitchPress > Settings > Screen-print estimates. It only bills when the underbase is definitely needed (the underbase mode set to "Work it out from the garment color" and the garment resolving as dark).
How the cart and the order show the price
In the designer, the customer sees a running price labelled as an estimate, for example "Decoration, estimated: $17.80". The server recomputes it at add to cart and on every cart load, from the current prices of the template the design was made with. If you change a template's prices, designs already sitting in carts follow the new prices; if you assign the product a different template, designs in carts keep the template they were made with.
In the cart, under the product, StitchPress adds:
- one row per charge, labelled with the placement, its size, and either "first placement", "additional placement" or the ink count, plus a "Quantity pricing" row when a tier applies;
- a Decoration row with the per-unit total, followed by "each" when the quantity is above 1.
Two settings in StitchPress > Settings control this:
- Cart decoration detail (What the customer sees): One row per charge (default), A single decoration total (only the Decoration row), or Nothing.
- Estimated price row (Storefront): Never show hides all decoration price rows.
A design whose decoration costs nothing shows no price rows. The labels on this page use a comma or a colon where the cart prints a dash.
When the order is placed, the order line gets two rows that stay as they were at checkout:
- Decoration: the method, for example "Embroidery".
- Decoration total: the decoration charge for the whole line, plus the per-unit figure when the quantity is above 1, for example "$213.60 ($17.80 each)".
The Job Jacket prints the same Decoration total. Later template edits never change the price of an order already placed.
Worked example 1: embroidery
Template pricing for Embroidery:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| First placement | 8.00 |
| Each additional | 5.00 |
| Size multipliers | Small 1.00, Medium 1.25, Large 1.60 |
| Setup fee | Charged per artwork, Amount 35.00, Waive at 250.00 |
The product is a cap priced at $9.00. The customer adds two placements: text on the Front at Large, and an uploaded logo on the Left side at Small.
Per-unit decoration:
| Cart row | Computation | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Front (Large), first placement | 8.00 x 1.60 | $12.80 |
| Left side (Small), additional placement | 5.00 x 1.00 | $5.00 |
| Decoration | $17.80 each |
Front is the first placement because Large has the larger multiplier, even though the customer added the logo first.
The cap now costs $9.00 + $17.80 = $26.80 per unit. One distinct uploaded file means one setup unit (the text does not count).
| Quantity | Line subtotal | Waive at 250.00? | Setup fee line | Cart subtotal |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6 | 6 x $26.80 = $160.80 | no, $160.80 is below $250.00 | Embroidery setup: 1 new logo, $35.00 | $195.80 |
| 12 | 12 x $26.80 = $321.60 | yes | none | $321.60 |
At quantity 12 the order line reads Decoration: Embroidery and Decoration total: $213.60 ($17.80 each).
Worked example 2: screen printing
Template pricing for Screen printing:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Per-location base | 6.00 |
| Per color | 1.50 |
| Quantity tiers | 1: x1.0, 12: x0.8, 48: x0.6 |
| Setup fee | Charged per screen, Amount 25.00, Waive at 0 |
The product is a tee priced at $5.00. The customer orders 24 with an uploaded logo in three inks on the Front and the text "CREW" in one ink on the Back, both at Medium.
Per-unit decoration at quantity 24:
| Cart row | Computation | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Front (Medium), 3 colors | 6.00 + 3 x 1.50 | $10.50 |
| Back (Medium), 1 color | 6.00 + 1 x 1.50 | $7.50 |
| Quantity pricing (12+ · ×0.8) | 18.00 x 0.8 = 14.40, so 14.40 minus 18.00 | -$3.60 |
| Decoration | $14.40 each |
24 falls in the 12 tier because 12 is the largest Min qty not above 24. At 48 or more the same design costs 18.00 x 0.6 = $10.80 per unit; below 12 it costs $18.00.
Totals:
- Line: 24 x ($5.00 + $14.40) = $465.60, of which the decoration total is 24 x $14.40 = $345.60.
- Screens: 3 for the logo (one per ink) plus 1 for the text = 4. Setup fee line "Screen printing setup: 4 screens", 4 x $25.00 = $100.00. Waive at is 0, so it is never waived.
- Cart subtotal: $465.60 + $100.00 = $565.60, before tax and shipping.
If the customer adds 12 hoodies to the same cart with the same logo in the same three inks, the hoodie line is priced on its own (12 tier), but the setup fee stays at 4 screens: those screens already exist.
The template editor's Pricing section shows a read-only price table for the template, computed by the same engine as the cart, and StitchPress > Price matrix shows every placement, size and quantity combination across your templates.
